Everyone loved the 1984 hit film, Splash, starring Tom Hanks and Daryl Hannah – there’s just something about mermaids!
In case you have been living under a rock, the film is centred around a man (Tom Hanks) who falls in love with a mermaid (Daryl Hannah) after she saves him from drowning as a child. Throughout the film, the two are reunited and fall in love all over again!
Although remakes are rarely even a scratch on the original, we have some incredible news in store for you that might just make you wanna see this one – Channing Tatum has been cast as the lead role!
In this remake, by Disney, the roles are being reversed: Channing will play a merman who saves a young girl from drowning. The rest of the story, as far as we know, is remaining the same.
It turns out that the idea for a reboot of Splash came from Channing Tatum’s co-star in 22 Jump Street: Jillian Bell, who will also be playing the female lead!
She came up with an exciting pitch which was quickly snapped up by Disney – and now we get to see one of our favourite 80s movies come back to life once more (It also doesn’t hurt that Channing will most likely be shirtless for most of the film…)
