Thousands lined up around the world to be among the first to get their hands on the much anticipated iPhone X.
At Destiny USA, some people waited for more than 17 hours for Apple’s newest phone.
The release of the iPhone X celebrates Apple’s tenth anniversary of the smartphone.
It’s the company’s most expensive phone ever, prices starting at $999.
Face ID recognition replaces touch ID to unlock the phone.
And it introduces ‘animojis’, where the face scanner mimics your expressions in character.
There were long lines Friday morning outside the Apple store in Destiny USA, by 6:30 a.m. close to 200 people were already in line.
Syracuse University student Austin Cieszko got there at 3 p.m. Thursday to make sure he was the first to get inside the store when it opened.
“I wanted it the day of so I had nothing to lose,” Cieszko said.
Except of course sleep. But sleep was the last thing on the minds of Apple fans like Todd Hunsicker who was looking forward to the new iPhone X’s much talked about facial recognition.
“I hate doing touch ID I wanted to look down at my phone and have it unlocked and then look away and have it locked look away and have it all done,” Hunsicker said.
The iPhone X is available online but folks at the Apple store Friday morning said getting in line is really the only way to guarantee you will get the new phone.
“I tried but their system didn’t work very well a lot of us in the first group here all tried to pre-order but it wouldn’t go through,” Pat Strodel said.
The new I phone ten is not cheap. It will cost you $999 but these Apple fans say it’s well worth the wait.
“It was definitely worth it. It was definitely worth it. I’ve been saving a lot of money to get this phone and well I have it right now,” Diego Sanchez said.
“It’s really cool immediately I jumped up from a much smaller phone the 5 so it’s a huge upgrade for me and it is really cool. I’m excited to try out the facial recognition stuff,” Brett Greenfield said.
Analysts expect the iPhone X will sell out quickly as the hype surrounding the new phone continues to grow. So if you want to get your hands on one anytime soon, be prepared to wait.
