The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt runs at 60 FPS on Xbox One X without patches
If you’ve got the disc version, you can see it in action.
Now that the world is finally getting their hands on the Xbox One X, people are finding different ways to test the console’s additional power, and some are more unusual than others. The YouTube channel NX Gamer recently did some tests on The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, and found that if you pop in a disc version of the game without updating it, the Xbox One X can run the game at 60 FPS.
The reason for this is that The Witcher 3 originally shipped on Xbox One with an unlocked framerate, but had the caveat of rendering the game at 900p. A patch later boosted the game’s resolution to 1080p but locked the game at 30 FPS. Hence, why you have to play the disc version without the patches to get the 60 FPS.
CD Projekt RED is working on a 4K patch for the Xbox One X that is said to come “by the end of the year.” So if the studio can reimplement the uncapped framerate for Microsoft’s new console without compromising on the resolution, or at least be able to give players the option to emphasize visuals versus performance, then it’ll be even better.
In other news, CEO Adam Kiciński said that we would “probably” return to the world of the Witcher at some point in the future, but reiterated the commitment that it won’t be as Geralt of Rivia as his story is complete. For now, we await the inevitable gameplay premiere of the studio’s next game, Cyberpunk 2077.
