A new comic subscription service called InkyPen is headed to the Nintendo Switch this November. Boasting a catalogue of over 10,000 graphic novels, manga, and European comics, InkyPen will let Switch owners read their favorite comics directly on the console, in both handheld and TV mode. The service will launch at $8 USD a month, with all content available on an all-you-can-read basis.
InkyPen is partnering with a variety of publishers to bring books to the service, including IDW, Dynamite, Valiant, les Humanoïdes Associés, and Andrews McNeel. As the first international non-game app to be released on the Switch eShop, the service is strongly emphasizing its international collection of titles, so don’t be surprised to see books from all around the world when it launches.
The folks at InkyPen aren’t sharing much more information right now about specific titles coming to the service or other publishers they plan to partner with down the line. As a Zelda fan, I know that I’d like to see InkyPen feature books published by Viz Media and Dark Horse, especially Akira Himekawa’s Zelda manga series and the Goddess Collection books. And it’s certainly a long shot, but InkyPen’s partnership with Valiant could mean we’d seen the early 90’s Zelda comics come to the service someday.
Stay tuned to InkyPen’s website and the Nintendo Switch eShop for more information on the service. InkyPen is set to launch in November 2018.
