Tricks With the Shift Key – 90 Second Website Builder Knowledge Base

90 Second Website Builder has some extra functionality which may be useful in some cases. These features can be accessed by holding down the SHIFT key on your keyboard which will override the standard behavior for that option.

You probably already know about the obvious use of the SHIFT key when multiple-selecting objects (or de-selecting objects) on the canvas.  But that is just one of many uses of the SHIFT key.

Here’s a list of all the Shift key tricks and lesser known uses of it when designing with 90 Second Website Builder.

  • Hold down the SHIFT key while clicking objects (select mode).  This will add or remove the object from the current selection.
  • Hold down the SHIFT key while resizing any object using the corner handles.  This will resize the object while keeping the current aspect ratio.
  • Hold down the SHIFT key while pressing TAB. This will select objects in the opposite direction.
  • Hold down the SHIFT key while in rotate mode. This will rotate the object in steps of 15 degrees.
  • Hold down the SHIFT key while clicking Make Default in the Page Properties. This will make the current settings the default for new pages in all projects, not just the current project. Make sure you keep the key down even when clicking Yes in the confirmation window.
  • Hold down the SHIFT key while clicking Sort Alphabetically in the Site Manager.  This will only sort the current level (not recursively).
  • Hold down the SHIFT key while clicking Edit in the Theme Manager.  This will open the theme’s folder in Windows Explorer.
  • Hold down the SHIFT key while clicking Export to HTML  in the File menu.  This allows you to export the current page’s HTML to a file (instead of launching the Publish dialog).
  • Hold down the SHIFT key while clicking Preview in browser in the File menu. This will invert the single page or entire website preview scope.
  • Hold down the SHIFT key while adding new objects.  This will prevent the editor from going back to select mode, so you can quickly insert the same object multiple times.
  • Hold down the SHIFT key while pasting text in text edit mode.  This will paste the text without formatting.
  • Hold down the SHIFT key while you drag & drop an image to the canvas. This will set the dragged image as the background instead of adding it as a regular image.
  • In Link Properties, hold down the SHIFT key while clicking Select. This will reset (empty) the internal link.
  • In the Form Properties, hold down the SHIFT key while clicking Select.  This will reset (empty) the success or error link.
  • In the CAPTCHA Properties, hold down the SHIFT key while clicking Select.  This will reset (empty) the error link.
  • Hold down the SHIFT key while clicking the Rotate Polaroids option in the Photo Gallery. This will display a dialog to manually set the rotation angles of the images (for advanced user only.)
  • Hold down the SHIFT key while clicking the Variable Polaroid sizes option in the Photo Gallery. This will display a dialog to manually set the scale factors of the images (for advanced user only.)
  • Hold down the SHIFT key while clicking the Add option in the Slide Show.  This allows you to select multiple images at once.
  • Hold down the SHIFT key while resizing a Shape.  This will do a live update of the shadow and other advanced effects.
  • Hold down the SHIFT key while deleting a form or layer. This will delete the form/layer, but not the object in the container.
  • Hold down the SHIFT key while clicking one of the Preview link states in Hyperlink styles. This will give all other states the same values.
  • Hold down the SHIFT key while using the arrows keys to move an object. This will move the object in bigger steps instead of 1 pixel at a time (using the current grid size).
  • Hold down the CTRL key while using the arrows keys to precisely resize an object, instead of moving it. Hold SHIFT + CTRL to use bigger steps…
  • Hold down the SHIFT key while clicking OK in popup settings (in Links). This will make the settings default for all new links.
